  • 1 1/2 lb. flank steak
  • 3 Tbsp. sesame seed
  • 3 Tbsp. salad oil
  • 1/4 c. soy sauce
  • 1/2 c. finely sliced green onions
  • 1 clove garlic, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 Tbsp. brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Remove fat and outside membrane from meat.
  2. Score on both sides of the steak.
  3. Combine soy sauce, sesame seed, salad oil, green onions, garlic, pepper, ground ginger, and brown sugar to make the marinade.
  4. Marinate the steak in the mixture for 1 to 8 hours, covered.
  5. Preheat grill and place steak on the rack.
  6. Grill for 4 minutes on each side for medium doneness.

Tips & Substitutions

For a deeper flavor, consider marinating the flank steak overnight instead of just 1 to 8 hours. If you don't have sesame seeds, toasted sunflower seeds can make a good substitute. Additionally, if you're short on time, a pre-made teriyaki sauce can be used as a marinade. Keep in mind that for medium doneness, the internal temperature should reach 145°F.

Serving Suggestions

This grilled teriyaki flank steak pairs beautifully with steamed jasmine rice or a refreshing cucumber salad. For a complete meal, consider serving it alongside sautéed vegetables or a vibrant stir-fry. You can also slice the steak thinly for use in a wrap or on top of a salad for a delicious lunch option.

Storage & Reheating

Leftover grilled teriyaki steak can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, slice the steak thinly and warm it gently in a skillet over low heat or in the microwave. Be careful not to overheat, as it can dry out the meat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different cut of beef for this marinade?

Yes, while flank steak is ideal for grilling, you can also use sirloin or ribeye. Just be aware that cooking times may vary based on the thickness of the cut.

Is this marinade suitable for chicken or pork?

Absolutely! This teriyaki marinade works wonderfully with chicken thighs or pork tenderloin. Adjust the cooking times accordingly, as chicken and pork will require different times to reach safe internal temperatures.

What should I do if I want a spicier marinade?

To add some heat, consider incorporating red pepper flakes or a dash of sriracha to the marinade. You can also serve the grilled steak with a spicy dipping sauce for an extra kick.
