Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine
  • 1/4 c. flour
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 1 tsp. grated onion
  • 2 c. coarsely ground cooked ham
  • 2 tsp. mustard
  • 3/4 c. dry bread crumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. water

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet; blend in flour.
  2. Add milk all at once, cook and stir until thick and bubbly; cook and stir 1 minute more.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Add coarsely ground cooked ham, grated onion, and mustard; mix well.
  5. Chill the mixture well.
  6. Shape into 8 to 10 balls.
  7. Roll each ball in dry bread crumbs.
  8. Shape into cones, handling lightly.
  9. Combine egg and water; dip cones in the mixture.
  10. Roll cones again in bread crumbs.
  11. Fry in deep hot fat at 365°F for 1½ to 2 minutes.
  12. Drain on paper towels.
