Ingredients

  • 16 slices bread, crusts removed
  • 2 cups ground uncooked ham
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/4 pound grated sharp Cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Butter each slice of bread on one side.
  2. Place 8 slices, butter side down, in a buttered baking dish.
  3. Spread ground ham, grated Cheddar cheese, and grated onion on the bread slices.
  4. Top with the remaining 8 slices of bread, butter side up.
  5. Mix eggs and milk together and pour over the casserole.
  6. Cover the dish with foil.
  7. Refrigerate overnight.
  8. Before baking, sprinkle with paprika.
  9. Bake uncovered at 325°F for 1 hour.
