Ingredients

  • 4 qt. sliced cucumbers
  • 1/3 c. salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
  • 2 Tbsp. mustard seed
  • 6 medium onions
  • 3 c. white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. celery seed

Instructions

  1. Wash cucumbers and slice them.
  2. Add sliced onions to the cucumbers.
  3. Sprinkle salt over the cucumbers and onions.
  4. Mix a tray of ice cubes with the pickles and onions and place another tray of ice on top. Let stand for 3 hours.
  5. Drain cucumbers, discarding the ice water.
  6. Combine vinegar, sugar, turmeric, mustard seed, and celery seed; bring to a boil.
  7. Add cucumbers to the boiling mixture and cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Put the pickles into jars and seal.
