Ingredients

  • 2 tsp. Crisco oil
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 lb. ground beef round
  • 1 c. quick oats
  • 1 c. tomato juice
  • 1/2 c. ketchup
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Heat Crisco oil in a small skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion and sauté until softened.
  4. In a large bowl, combine sautéed onion, ground beef, oats, tomato juice, 1/4 cup ketchup, egg white, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and garlic salt.
  5. Stir until well blended.
  6. Press the mixture into an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2-inch loaf pan or shape into a loaf.
  7. Turn out into a larger baking pan if necessary.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 50 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and spread remaining 1/4 cup ketchup over the top.
  10. Return to oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  11. Remove from oven and let stand for 5 minutes.
  12. Place on a serving plate and slice to serve.
