Homemade fried rice combines savory meats and fresh vegetables with soy sauce for a flavorful, quick, and customizable dish perfect for weeknight dinners or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups rice
  • 1 cup meat (pork, ham, beef, or shrimp)
  • 1/2 cup green peppers
  • 1/2 cup onions
  • 1/2 cup celery
  • 1/2 to 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 2 or 3 eggs
  • salt
  • pepper
  • butter or oil
  • soy sauce

Instructions

  1. Boil rice according to instructions on the box, using less water for flaky rice.
  2. Cook or boil meat or shrimp until done, then dice into small pieces.
  3. Scramble eggs in a bowl.
  4. Add green peppers, onions, celery, and bean sprouts to the eggs.
  5. Cook the vegetable mixture until the vegetables are soft.
  6. Add butter or oil and cook together.
  7. Add the cooked rice to the vegetable mixture.
  8. Stir and cook for about 10 minutes.
  9. Add soy sauce, salt, and pepper to taste and stir well.
