Warm, hearty apple oatmeal with walnuts and raisins, infused with cinnamon and sweetened to taste, perfect for a comforting breakfast or brunch for family or guests.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups skim milk
  • 2 teaspoons margarine
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
  • 1 cup wheat germ

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk, brown sugar or NutraSweet, margarine, salt, and cinnamon in a saucepan and scald the mixture.
  2. In a greased 2-quart casserole, combine the rolled oats, walnuts, raisins, chopped apples, and wheat germ.
  3. Pour the hot milk mixture over the ingredients in the casserole and stir to combine.
  4. Cover the casserole.
  5. Bake in a 350°F oven for 45 minutes or microwave at full power for 10 minutes, stirring several times during cooking.
  6. Serve hot.
