Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar; add spices and flour.
  2. Mix well. Reserve 3/4 cup of this mixture for the top.
  3. Add egg and buttermilk to the remaining mixture and mix well.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased and floured 2-quart ovenproof glass baking dish.
  5. Sprinkle the reserved crumb mixture over the top.
  6. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes at 350° F.
  7. Serve warm with butter.
