Ingredients

  • 16 to 24 large mushrooms
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. melted butter
  • 1 Tbsp. onion salt
  • 1 Tbsp. seasoned salt
  • 1 cup fine bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 3 Tbsp. shredded Longhorn

Instructions

  1. Combine melted butter, onion salt, seasoned salt, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, and shredded Longhorn in a bowl.
  2. Brush cleaned mushroom caps with melted butter.
  3. Stuff the mushroom caps with the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Place stuffed mushrooms in a well buttered baking dish.
  5. Bake at 400°F for 10 to 15 minutes until golden and heated through.

Tips & Substitutions

For a variation, try adding cooked sausage or crab meat to the breadcrumb mixture for added flavor. If you don't have Parmesan cheese, Pecorino Romano works well as a substitute. Ensure the mushrooms are cleaned gently to avoid moisture, which can make the filling soggy. If you prefer a spicier kick, consider adding a dash of crushed red pepper flakes to the stuffing.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these Hot Stuffed Mushrooms as a delightful appetizer at your next gathering, or alongside a fresh salad like Colorful Cauliflower Salad for a refreshing contrast. They pair beautifully with a glass of white wine, making them perfect for entertaining. Consider serving them alongside Doug'S Sweet Potato Casserole for a comforting meal.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover stuffed mushrooms in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place them in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 10 minutes, or until heated through. Avoid using a microwave, as it can make the mushrooms soggy and affect the texture of the stuffing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these stuffed mushrooms ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the stuffed mushrooms a day in advance. Assemble them and store them in the refrigerator, covered tightly. When ready to serve, bake them directly from the fridge, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time to ensure they are heated through.

What types of mushrooms work best for stuffing?

Large button mushrooms or cremini mushrooms are ideal for stuffing due to their size and flavor. Ensure they are firm and fresh for the best results. Avoid using smaller mushrooms as they may not hold the stuffing well, and can cook too quickly.

Can I freeze stuffed mushrooms?

Yes, stuffed mushrooms can be frozen. Prepare and stuff them, then place them on a baking sheet to freeze individually before transferring to an airtight container. They can be frozen for up to 3 months. Bake from frozen, adding extra time to ensure they are cooked through.
