Hungarian meatballs in a rich sour cream sauce with mushrooms, garlic, and herbs, perfect for hearty family dinners served over noodles or rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground chuck
  • garlic salt to taste
  • 2 Tbsp. parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • pinch of pepper
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 cup fine, dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 1 tsp. Kitchen Bouquet
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 1 (3 oz.) can sliced mushrooms
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream

Instructions

  1. Combine ground chuck, garlic salt, parsley, salt, pepper, milk, beaten egg, and bread crumbs in a bowl.
  2. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into small meatballs.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet and add Kitchen Bouquet.
  5. Brown the meatballs in the oil mixture, then remove them from the skillet.
  6. Stir in flour into the skillet to make a roux.
  7. Add sliced mushrooms and cook for a few minutes.
  8. Stir in sour cream and cook until the sauce thickens, stirring constantly.
  9. Return the meatballs to the skillet and simmer, covered, over low heat for 20 minutes.
  10. Serve hot with noodles or rice.
