Italian Delight is a hearty casserole combining tender macaroni, savory ground beef, and rich tomato flavors, complemented by sweet corn, mushrooms, and seasoned with chili powder and Worcestershire sauce. It’s perfect for family dinners or potlucks, offering comforting, bold flavors in every bite.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb. shell macaroni
- 3 medium onions, diced ⓘ
- 1 garlic bud ⓘ
- 4 (8 oz.) cans tomato sauce ⓘ
- 1 (No. 2) can whole kernel corn ⓘ
- 3 (3 oz.) cans mushrooms and liquid ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. brown sugar ⓘ
- 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp. chili powder ⓘ
- 2 tsp. salt ⓘ
- 1/4 tsp. pepper ⓘ
- 2 lb. ground beef ⓘ
- 1 medium green pepper, diced ⓘ
- 1/2 lb. oleo ⓘ
- 1 c. grated cheese ⓘ
Instructions
- Cook the shell macaroni according to package directions; drain and set aside.
- Brown the ground beef, diced onions, diced green pepper, and minced garlic in oleo until fully cooked.
- In a large casserole dish, thoroughly stir in the cooked macaroni, tomato sauce, whole kernel corn, mushrooms with liquid, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
- Mix in the browned meat and vegetables until well combined.
- Refrigerate the casserole overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Cover the casserole and bake for approximately 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- Optional: sprinkle grated cheese on top before serving.
