Ingredients

  • 2 lb. moist raisins
  • 2 lb. moist currants
  • 1 lb. citron, cut
  • 1 lb. pecans, chopped
  • 1 lb. almonds, chopped
  • 4 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon mace
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 lb. soft butter
  • 1 lb. brown sugar
  • 12 eggs
  • 16 oz. blackberry jelly
  • 1/2 cup cream
  • 1/2 cup canned fruit juice

Instructions

  1. Presoak the dried fruits in wine or rum.
  2. Combine the soaked fruits and chopped nuts.
  3. Sift the flour and mix 2 cups with the fruits and nuts.
  4. Cream the soft butter until smooth and blend in the brown sugar.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  6. Stir in the blackberry jelly, cream, and canned fruit juice.
  7. Mix all ingredients thoroughly and pour into a prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 2 hours or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
