Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 cup yogurt or buttermilk
  • 1 cup chopped pears
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg or mace

Instructions

  1. If yogurt is used, add 2 tablespoons water and set aside.
  2. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  5. Stir in vanilla.
  6. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and nutmeg.
  7. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  8. Fold in chopped pears.
  9. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
  10. Bake for 50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove and cool completely on a wire rack.
