Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these enchiladas vegetarian?

Absolutely! To create a vegetarian version, replace the ground beef with sautéed mushrooms, lentils, or a mix of your favorite vegetables. Adding black beans or refried beans not only enhances the texture but also keeps the dish hearty and satisfying. Just ensure the consomme is vegetable-based.

What can I use instead of consomme?

If you can't find consomme, you can substitute it with vegetable or beef broth for a similar flavor profile. If using broth, be mindful of the salt content and adjust accordingly. You can also create your own quick consomme using bouillon cubes dissolved in water.

How do I make the sauce thicker?

To thicken the sauce, you can simmer it longer to reduce excess liquid, allowing it to concentrate. Alternatively, mix a small amount of cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry and stir it into the sauce until it thickens to your desired consistency.
