Ingredients

  • 1 lb. beef chuck
  • 1/2 c. red wine
  • 2 (10 1/2 oz.) cans condensed consomme
  • 3/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1/4 c. fine dry bread crumbs
  • 1/4 c. sifted flour
  • vegetables (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut beef into 2-inch pieces.
  2. In a 3-quart casserole dish, combine beef, red wine, consomme, salt, pepper, and sliced onion.
  3. Mix together bread crumbs and sifted flour and stir into the casserole mixture; cover.
  4. Bake at 300°F (150°C) about 3 hours or until beef is tender.
  5. If desired, add vegetables (potatoes, carrots, green beans, peas) about 30 minutes before serving.
