Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 unbeaten egg
  • 1 tablespoon grated lemon rind

Instructions

  1. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt together.
  2. Cream the butter, gradually adding sugar and beating well.
  3. Blend in the egg, grated lemon rind, and lemon juice.
  4. Add the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
  5. Chill the dough for easier handling.
  6. Shape the dough into small balls using a teaspoon.
  7. Place on ungreased cookie sheets.
  8. Snip each ball in half, three-quarters of the way through, using lightly floured scissors.
  9. Snip each half into thirds to form petals.
  10. Lay the six petals down on the sheet to resemble a daisy.
  11. Decorate the centers with candied cherry halves.
  12. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes until lightly golden.
