Ingredients

  • 6 egg whites
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vinegar
  • 1 1/2 lemons or 1/3 cup lemon juice
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 pint whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Beat egg whites, then add 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla and vinegar, then gradually add 1 1/2 cups sugar and continue beating. Do not beat too stiff.
  2. Cover the back of a large cookie sheet with foil. Spread the egg white mixture over the foil.
  3. Bake at 300°F for 1 hour. Cool in the oven with the heat off and the door open, very gradually, for about 1 hour.
