- Add baking soda and boiling water to the dates; let sit for a few minutes.
- In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar.

- Combine well; fold in the grated nuts.
- Pour the batter into a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 1 hour or until a cake tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
