Ingredients

  • 1 small cabbage
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 onion
  • 3/4 cup raw brown rice
  • 1 can sauerkraut
  • 1 (32 oz.) jar spaghetti sauce
  • 1/2 to 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp. pepper
  • 1 tsp. oregano
  • 1 tsp. basil

Instructions

  1. Mix the spaghetti sauce and water; set aside.
  2. Cut the cabbage into wedges, drop into hot water, and bring to a boil.
  3. Remove from heat and set aside. Cook the brown rice according to package directions.
  4. Brown the lean ground beef with chopped onion and seasonings (pepper, oregano, basil).
  5. Drain the cooked cabbage.
  6. Layer one-third of the cabbage in a greased casserole dish, then half of the cooked meat, half of the cooked rice, and one-third of the sauce to cover.
  7. Repeat with another third of cabbage, sauerkraut, remaining meat and rice, and one-third of the sauce.
  8. Top with the remaining cabbage and pour the remaining sauce over the top.
  9. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1.5 to 2 hours until heated through and bubbly.
  10. Allow to rest briefly before serving.
