- Cream together the sugar and butter.
- Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.
- Mix in lemon juice and vanilla.
- Coat dates and nuts with a little of the flour.
- Add baking powder and cinnamon to the remaining flour.
- Add the prepared flour mixture to the egg mixture.
- Fold in the floured nuts and dates.
- Line a tube pan with wax paper and grease and flour it.
- Place a pan of water in the bottom of the oven.
- Bake at 200°F (93°C) for 3 hours or until done.
- Store in a tight container.
- Allow 2 to 3 weeks for the flavors to mellow.
- Optional: add apple slices or a sprinkle of wine to enhance flavor.
