Ingredients

  • pastry for double crust pie
  • 6 cups thinly sliced peeled apples
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup crushed gingersnaps
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Line a pie pan with the bottom crust.
  2. Place half of the sliced peeled apples in the crust; set aside.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, brown sugar, crushed gingersnaps, cinnamon, chopped nuts, and butter.
  4. Sprinkle half of this mixture over the apples in the crust.
  5. Add the remaining apples on top of the first layer.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining sugar mixture over the apples.
  7. Cover with the top crust, cutting a few slits in it for ventilation.
  8. Loosely cover the pie with foil.
  9. Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes.
