Ingredients

  • 1 long loaf rye or vienna bread
  • 1 pint sour cream
  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 1 small can chopped mild chili peppers
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 4 oz. dried beef
  • 1 teaspoon minced onion (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Slice the top off the loaf of bread and hollow out the inside, breaking the removed bread into pieces for dipping.
  2. Mix together sour cream, cream cheese, chopped mild chili peppers, shredded Cheddar cheese, dried beef, minced onion (if using), garlic powder (if using), and Worcestershire sauce.
  3. Pour the filling into the hollowed-out bread loaf.
  4. Replace the sliced top on the loaf and wrap it in foil.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.
  6. Rinse the dried beef to remove excess salt, then dry well before adding to the mixture if not already prepared.
  7. Optional: add minced onion, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce to taste before filling.
