Tips & Substitutions

For best results, use fresh caramels for melting, as older ones may not smooth out well. If you're short on time, consider using store-bought caramel sauce instead of melting caramels. You can also substitute the margarine with unsalted butter for richer flavor. For a nut-free version, simply omit the peanuts or replace them with sunflower seeds.

Serving Suggestions

These bars are perfect as a sweet treat on their own or served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent dessert. Pair with a glass of cold milk or a hot cup of coffee. They also make great additions to dessert platters at gatherings, alongside sweet treats like Arkansas Dirt or Nutmeg (Donut) Muffins.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover Million Calorie Bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you prefer a firmer texture, refrigerate them. To reheat, place a bar in the microwave for a few seconds to soften the chocolate and caramel, making it gooey and delicious again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of chocolate chips?

Yes, you can easily substitute milk chocolate chips with semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips, depending on your preference. Each type of chocolate will provide a different level of sweetness and richness, allowing you to customize the flavor of your bars.

What can I use instead of margarine?

Unsalted butter is a great substitute for margarine and will add a richer flavor to your bars. You may also opt for coconut oil or a vegan butter alternative if you're looking for a dairy-free option.

How do I know when the bars are done baking?

The bars are done when the top is golden brown and the edges are slightly firm. A toothpick inserted into the center should come out mostly clean, with a few crumbs attached. Be careful not to overbake, as this can lead to a dry texture.
