- Combine egg, molasses, sugar, melted butter or margarine, grated lemon rind, and lemon juice in a large mixing bowl, beating well.
- Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; add to egg mixture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture.
- Mix well after each addition.
- Stir in chopped pecans.
- Spoon batter into a greased and floured 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 3-inch loaf pan.
- Bake at 350°F for 50 to 55 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes; remove loaf from pan and let cool completely.
