Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cloves
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening with 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add egg and molasses; mix well.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, soda, cinnamon, salt, ginger, and cloves.
  4. Gradually add about 1/4 of the dry mixture to the creamed mixture, mixing until smooth after each addition.
  5. Chill the dough for 1 hour.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls.
  7. Roll each ball in sugar.
  8. Place the cookies 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  9. Bake at 325°F for 10 minutes.
