Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1 c. coffee or water
  • 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 c. cocoa

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour and sugar.
  2. In a heavy saucepan, combine margarine, shortening, coffee or water, and cocoa.
  3. Stir and heat to boiling.
  4. Pour the boiling mixture over the flour and sugar in the bowl.
  5. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, and vanilla; mix well.
  6. Pour into a well buttered 17 1/2 x 11-inch pan.
  7. Bake at 400°F for 20 minutes or until done.
  8. While brownies bake, prepare frosting.
