Ingredients

  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1 tablespoon soda
  • 2 teaspoons soda
  • 1 cup Crisco shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 quart buttermilk
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups 100% All Bran cereal

Instructions

  1. Add soda to hot water, let cool, then add salt, sugar, and shortening. Beat until light and fluffy.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Add buttermilk, flour, and salt; mix well.
  4. Add soda water very slowly.
  5. Fold in the two bran cereals into the mixture.
  6. Add nuts (if desired).
  7. Bake in muffin tins at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 18 minutes.
