  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 c. spaghetti sauce

  2. Oil a 9 x 13-inch baking dish.
  3. With oiled hands, form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.

Tips & Substitutions

For added flavor, consider incorporating minced garlic or Italian seasoning into the meatball mixture. If you don't have fresh bread crumbs, you can substitute with regular breadcrumbs or even crushed crackers. Adjust the seasoning to your preference, and for a healthier option, you can use ground turkey instead of beef. Pair these meatballs with a side of Cavatina for a complete meal.

Serving Suggestions

Serve these meatballs over a bed of spaghetti for a classic meal or alongside a fresh salad for a lighter option. They also pair wonderfully with garlic bread or a side of roasted vegetables. For a comforting dish, try them in a sub sandwich with melted cheese. Explore more Italian recipes to complement this hearty dish.

Store any leftover meatballs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply warm them in the microwave or place them in a saucepan with a bit of spaghetti sauce over low heat until heated through. Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these meatballs ahead of time?

Absolutely! You can prepare the meatball mixture and form the balls a day in advance. Just refrigerate them until you're ready to bake. This not only saves time but also allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

What can I use instead of Parmesan cheese?

If you don't have Parmesan cheese, you can substitute it with Pecorino Romano for a similar taste, or use a vegan cheese if you're looking for a dairy-free option. Nutritional yeast can also provide a cheesy flavor without dairy.

How do I know when the meatballs are fully cooked?

The best way to check for doneness is to use a meat thermometer; the internal temperature should reach 160°F. Alternatively, you can cut one meatball in half to ensure it's no longer pink in the center and the juices run clear.
