Nectarine Blitz Torte
A delightful layered nectarine torte with fluffy meringue, sweet nectarines, and crunchy almonds, perfect for summer gatherings or elegant dessert occasions.

Instructions
- Cream together the shortening and powdered sugar.
- Beat in egg yolks one at a time.
- Sift flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add to the creamed mixture alternately with milk.
- Spread the batter evenly in two greased and floured 9-inch round cake pans.
- Beat egg whites until foamy.
- Gradually add 1 cup of sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
- Spread the meringue over the cake batter in each pan.
- Sprinkle each layer with 1 tablespoon of sugar and 1 tablespoon of sliced almonds.
- Bake at 325°F (163°C) for 30 minutes.
- Dice 2 cups of nectarines and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of sugar.
- Place a cake layer, meringue side down, on the serving platter.
- Top with a layer of diced nectarines and whipped cream.
- Repeat the layers and serve.
