Ingredients

  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 2 c. rolled oats
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. allspice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 c. flour
  • 1 c. raisins
  • 1/2 c. nuts

Instructions

  1. Cream together the brown sugar and shortening until well blended.
  2. Add eggs and milk to the creamed mixture and mix thoroughly.
  3. Stir in the rolled oats.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine all dry ingredients: salt, baking soda, allspice, cinnamon, ground cloves, nutmeg, and flour.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until combined.
  6. Fold in the raisins and nuts.
  7. Do not grease cookie sheets. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the cookie sheet.
  9. Bake for about 10 minutes, watching carefully until golden brown.
