Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • sifted powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Beat together butter and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Beat in vanilla; add eggs, one at a time, blending well after each addition.
  3. Combine flour with baking soda and salt; add to batter alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour.
  4. Butter and flour an 8-cup fluted mold.
  5. Pour in batter.
  6. Bake at 350°F for about 1 1/2 hours or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow cake to stand 5 minutes inverted; remove cake from pan and finish cooling on a cake rack.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
