Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup diced bacon
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 4 to 4 1/2 cups sifted flour

Instructions

  1. Combine chopped onion, diced bacon, and minced garlic in a skillet and sauté until golden.
  2. Dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit until foamy.
  3. In a mixing bowl, add warm milk, sugar, salt, and 2 cups of sifted flour. Beat until well blended.
  4. Stir in the sautéed onion, bacon, and garlic.
  5. Gradually add enough additional flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Knead the dough well and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape into a loaf.
  8. Place the loaf in a greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pan.
  9. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in bulk.
  10. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 45 minutes or until done.
