Tips & Substitutions

To enhance the flavor, consider adding diced onions or garlic when heating the chicken mixture. If you're out of mayonnaise, Greek yogurt or sour cream can be used as a substitute. For a lighter version, you could use shredded rotisserie chicken. This dish can also be made with other vegetables like corn or peas for variety.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make this casserole ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the chicken mixture a day in advance and store it in the refrigerator. Just add the biscuits and bake it right before serving. This makes it a convenient option for busy weeknights or family gatherings.

What can I use instead of cream of chicken soup?

You can create a homemade substitute using equal parts of chicken broth and milk thickened with a tablespoon of flour or cornstarch. This is great for controlling the ingredients and flavor if you prefer a healthier option.

Can I freeze the chicken casserole?

Yes, this casserole can be frozen before or after baking. If freezing before baking, wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. When ready to eat, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight and bake as directed. If baked, reheat directly from the freezer, adding extra time to ensure it's heated through.
