Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 2 pounds small beans
  • 1/2 cup bacon, cut up
  • 1 cup catsup
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 cup molasses

Instructions

  1. Rinse and soak beans in water for 2 hours.
  2. Brown bacon, drain, and set aside.
  3. Mix all ingredients, including beans, bacon, catsup, mustard, onion, brown sugar, pepper, salt, soda, and molasses in a large roasting pan.
  4. Bake covered at 200°F (93°C) for 12 hours.
  5. Uncover and stir the beans.
  6. If beans are not soft, bake uncovered at 350°F (177°C) until soft.
