Ingredients

  • 20 oz. frozen broccoli
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 Tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 3 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 Tbsp. melted butter

Instructions

  1. Cook the frozen broccoli until nearly done, then drain and set aside.
  2. Fry the chopped onion in 3 tablespoons of butter until translucent.
  3. Stir in the flour, salt, and pepper, cooking for another minute.
  4. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook until the mixture boils, thickens, and becomes smooth.
  5. Beat the egg yolk lightly in a small bowl.
  6. Gradually add about half of the hot sauce mixture into the egg yolk, then pour this mixture back into the saucepan, stirring constantly.
  7. Add the grated Parmesan cheese to the sauce and mix well.
  8. Lay the cooked broccoli in a buttered casserole dish.
  9. Pour the cheese sauce over the broccoli evenly.
  10. Mix the melted butter and bread crumbs with a fork to combine.
  11. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the casserole.
  12. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the crumbs are lightly browned and the mixture is heated through.
