- Cook the frozen broccoli until nearly done, then drain and set aside.
- Fry the chopped onion in 3 tablespoons of butter until translucent.
- Stir in the flour, salt, and pepper, cooking for another minute.
- Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook until the mixture boils, thickens, and becomes smooth.
- Beat the egg yolk lightly in a small bowl.
- Gradually add about half of the hot sauce mixture into the egg yolk, then pour this mixture back into the saucepan, stirring constantly.
- Add the grated Parmesan cheese to the sauce and mix well.
- Lay the cooked broccoli in a buttered casserole dish.
- Pour the cheese sauce over the broccoli evenly.
- Mix the melted butter and bread crumbs with a fork to combine.
- Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture over the casserole.
- Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the crumbs are lightly browned and the mixture is heated through.
