Ingredients

  • 2 lb. hamburger
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 qt. milk
  • 1/4 lb. butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 1 lb. elbow macaroni
  • 12 eggs

Instructions

  1. Brown the hamburger in a skillet.
  2. Saute the chopped onion and simmer together with the hamburger for a short time.
  3. Add salt, pepper, cinnamon, and tomato sauce to the mixture.
  4. Simmer for about 20 minutes.
  5. Cook the elbow macaroni until al dente.
  6. Strain the macaroni and add a little butter to prevent sticking.
  7. Melt butter in a saucepan.
  8. Add flour and milk to the melted butter and heat until thickened.
  9. Beat 12 eggs well and fold into the milk mixture.
  10. Add grated Romano cheese to the egg and milk mixture.
  11. Combine the cheese mixture with the cooked macaroni.
  12. Layer half of the macaroni mixture in the bottom of a large 11 x 16-inch pan.
  13. Add the cooked hamburger mixture on top of the first layer.
  14. Cover with the remaining macaroni mixture as the top layer.
  15. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes, then reduce temperature to 300°F and bake for another 30 minutes or until golden on top.
