Ingredients

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1/8 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 cups macaroni
  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 3 tablespoons American cheese
  • 2 cups scalded milk
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 4 eggs

Instructions

  1. Brown the hamburger and chopped onion; drain excess fat.
  2. Add warm water and tomato paste to the meat mixture; simmer briefly.
  3. Cook macaroni until al dente; drain.
  4. Add margarine and American cheese to the cooked macaroni; stir until melted and combined.
  5. In a separate saucepan, heat milk, 1/2 cup margarine, cornstarch, and water until thickened; then cool.
  6. Beat eggs until yellow; add seasonings and cheese to the eggs.
  7. In a 2-quart casserole, layer the meat mixture, macaroni, and sauce.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes until heated through and golden on top.
