- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan; set aside.
- In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and baking soda.
- In a separate bowl, cream together margarine, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in chunky peanut butter until well incorporated.
- Mix in quick or regular oats, applesauce, and toasted wheat germ until evenly combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow to cool before slicing into bars and serving.
