Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cup chunky peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/4 cups quick or regular oats
  • 1/2 cup chunk-style applesauce
  • 1/4 cup toasted wheat germ

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 13 x 9 x 2-inch baking pan; set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine whole wheat flour and baking soda.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together margarine, sugar, and vanilla until smooth.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Stir in chunky peanut butter until well incorporated.
  6. Mix in quick or regular oats, applesauce, and toasted wheat germ until evenly combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for approximately 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool before slicing into bars and serving.
