Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup soft shortening
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup small plain chocolate bars, melted
  • 3/4 cup salted peanuts, crushed

Instructions

  1. Mix shortening, peanut butter, sugars, and egg thoroughly.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together; stir into the mixture.
  3. Chill the dough for about 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Put the dough through a cookie press, making 2 1/2-inch long cookies using a star-shaped plate.
  6. Place cookies on a greased baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes until lightly browned.
  8. Allow cookies to cool, then dip one end in melted chocolate.
  9. Immediately roll the chocolate-dipped end in crushed salted peanuts.
