Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1/4 teaspoon rum extract
  • 2 cups pears, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 cups white bread, coarsely torn
  • 3 cups milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Heat rum or rum extract and pour over raisins; set aside to soak.
  3. Melt 1 tablespoon butter in a frypan; add peeled and sliced pears and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add 1/4 cup sugar to the pears, stir, and cook for 2 more minutes; then set aside.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine coarsely torn bread, soaked raisins, cooked pears, sugar, vanilla, eggs, and milk.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes or until golden and set.
  8. Serve warm, optionally with a drizzle of cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
