- Drain pear slices, reserving 1/2 cup syrup, then chop the pears.
- In a bowl, combine chopped pears and reserved syrup with the beaten egg and oil.
- In a large mixing bowl, stir together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Stir in the shredded Cheddar and chopped walnuts.
- Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add the pear mixture all at once.
- Stir until the mixture is just moistened; batter will be lumpy.
- Pour the batter into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
