Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tablespoons margarine
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Beat the egg in a bowl and add the milk.
  3. Melt the margarine in an iron skillet or baking pan.
  4. Combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt, and sift together.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the egg-milk mixture and mix well.
  6. Add the melted margarine and mix thoroughly.
  7. Stir in honey or sugar, as desired.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes or until almost done.
  9. If done enough after 15 minutes, turn the cornbread over in the pan and finish baking until browned.
