Ingredients

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup bouillon
  • 5 pounds beef pot roast
  • 1/2 cup catsup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon mustard

Instructions

  1. Combine chopped onion, bouillon, tomato sauce, salt, and pepper in a large bowl.
  2. Pour the marinade over the beef pot roast in the bowl.
  3. Marinate the meat in the refrigerator overnight.
  4. Heat shortening in a heavy skillet.
  5. Remove the meat from the marinade and brown it on both sides in the hot fat.
  6. Blend catsup, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard into the marinade.
  7. Pour the mixture over the browned meat in the skillet.
  8. Cover the pan and simmer until the meat is tender, about 2 to 2.5 hours.
  9. Optional: thickening the gravy slightly before serving.
