Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2/3 cup sour milk
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2/3 cup chopped stewed prunes, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cassia
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs well in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add sugar and melted shortening; beat again until combined.
  3. Stir in well chopped stewed prunes.
  4. Add sour milk and sifted dry ingredients (flour, soda, salt, cassia, nutmeg, allspice, baking powder); mix until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into prepared layers or baking pans.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven and cool before serving.
