Ingredients

  • 2 cups ground pears, uncooked
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup self-rising flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Drain juice from ground pears and add soda to the pears, then let stand.
  2. Cream shortening and sugars together until well blended.
  3. Add egg and mix well.
  4. Add pear mixture, self-rising flour, salt, and cinnamon to the creamed mixture.
  5. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 10-inch baking pan.
  6. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for about 40 minutes until golden and cooked through.
