Instructions

  1. Pour hot water over baking soda and dates; cool and set aside.
  2. Cream shortening until smooth.
  3. Add sugar, eggs, and vanilla; mix well.
  4. Alternate adding flour and the date mixture into the batter; mix well.
  5. Place two-thirds of the batter in a Bundt pan.
  6. Sprinkle with half of the nuts and broken kisses.
  7. Pour the remaining batter on top.
  8. Top with remaining nuts and kisses.
  9. Bake for 1 hour, or until browned.
