Ingredients

  • 1 lb. sausage links
  • 1 cup diced bacon
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 lb. fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 red skinned apples, cored and diced
  • 1 cup chopped parsley
  • 1 tsp. sage
  • 1 tsp. thyme
  • 1 loaf (1 lb.) firm white bread, cut in 1-inch cubes
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, fry the sausage and bacon until crisp and brown.
  2. Remove sausage and cut into 1-inch pieces.
  3. Return sausage to the skillet and add onion, celery, mushrooms, apples, parsley, sage, and thyme.
  4. Saute, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes.
  5. Stir in bread cubes and chicken broth.
  6. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve.
