Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups sour milk or buttermilk
  • 2/3 cup dark molasses
  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups uncooked oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins

Instructions

  1. Beat eggs until light.
  2. Gradually add sugar while beating; stir in sour milk or buttermilk and dark molasses.
  3. Beat well until mixture is smooth.
  4. Sift all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda together.
  5. Combine dry ingredients with the wet mixture.
  6. Stir in oatmeal, chopped nuts, and raisins.
  7. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before removing from pan and slicing.
