Small Dinner Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. soft shortening
  • 1 pkg. yeast
  • 1 c. warm water
  • 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 1/2 c. sifted flour

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Stir in sugar, salt, and half the flour.
  3. Beat until smooth.
  4. Add egg and shortening.
  5. Beat in remaining flour until smooth.
  6. Scrape down the sides of the bowl with a paddle scraper.
  7. Seal and let rise in a warm place until doubled in size.
  8. Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a pastry sheet.
  9. Shape into rolls and let rise again.
  10. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
