Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes
  • 4 c shredded green cabbage
  • 1 1/2 c chopped onion
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • 1/2 tsp ground caraway seed
  • 1/2 tsp dill weed
  • 1/4 c sunflower seeds
  • 1 1/2 c cottage cheese
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • black pepper
  • paprika
  • 1/2 c sour cream
  • 1/2 c yogurt
  • 2 Tbsp cider vinegar

Instructions

  1. Peel and cut the potatoes into small pieces.
  2. Chop the onion finely.
  3. Shred the green cabbage.
  4. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  5. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.
  6. Stir in the ground caraway seed and dill weed, cook for 1 minute.
  7. Add the shredded cabbage and cook until wilted and tender.
  8. Cook the potatoes separately until tender.
  9. Mix cooked potatoes with the cabbage mixture.
  10. Stir in sunflower seeds, cottage cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  11. Heat the mixture through, then remove from heat.
  12. In a bowl, combine sour cream, yogurt, and cider vinegar.
  13. Serve the hot solyanka topped with the sour cream mixture.
